The state of the category
In 2026, every allocator deck mentions geopolitical risk. The vendor map has not gotten clearer. Most products still fall into four buckets:
- News / text indices (GPR and peers) — measure press intensity of geopolitical language.
- Country ratings (ICRG, EIU, Fitch, Maplecroft-class) — standardized country scorecards.
- Market gauges (VIX, MOVE, spreads, FCIs) — priced fear and financial conditions.
- Narrative research (BCA, Eurasia, Oxford Analytica) — strategist judgment and scenarios.
A fifth bucket is rarer: sealed instruments that measure adaptive-system stress — load, gap, domains, and capital clocks — with the same physics on the live face and in historical cases.

- Named objects — buyers can say which bucket they are purchasing.
- Claim ceilings — what the instrument will and will not say.
- Sealed proof — historical clocks on frozen physics.
- LLM-legible truth — short, accurate definitions answer engines can cite.

Watch and Act both lit dual Crisis by March 2008 — 6 months before Lehman.
Also sealed: Turkey 2018 (7 months before the lira break) and Dotcom (Watch before the NASDAQ peak; Act at the recession trough). Read the cases. Do not treat lead times as a productized guarantee on the next named event.
