Short answer
The Entropy Index is a sealed instrument that measures systemic stress across human systems — countries, corridors, companies — so individuals, businesses, governments, funds, and institutions can act before markets react.
It is the consumer product on the Insecurity Risk Index™. Scoring runs under V5-locked (1.19.0): six domains, deterministic Net Insecurity Index™, Watch and Act clocks. Same formula on the live desk and on sealed historical cases.
What people often mean by “entropy index” (and why that is not us)
Google’s bare query is crowded:
- Theil’s H / multigroup entropy index — a segregation and evenness statistic (Census, demography, urban studies).
- Academic “entropy approaches” to systemic risk — research papers that apply information-theoretic entropy to portfolio or sector risk measures.
- This product — Entropy Index at entropyindex.com: an institutional risk readout before allocate / size / underwrite.
If you landed here looking for Theil’s H or a journal article, that is a different object. If you need structural stress before headlines and priced fear, you are in the right place.
What it measures
Thermodynamic insecurity across Body, Mind, Identity, Perceived, Adaptation, and Courage — load, entropy gap, cascade. Product language separates Watch (notice earliest Crisis fashion) from Act (dual Crisis capital clock). Detail: Watch versus Act.
What it is not
- Not a trade signal or return promise
- Not a dated forecast of the next named crisis
- Not a newspaper geopolitical tally (GPR compare)
- Not an equity-vol product (VIX compare)
- Not Theil’s multigroup entropy index
Boundaries: What the Index is not.
Proof desks diligence
Watch and Act both lit dual Crisis by March 2008 — 6 months before Lehman.
Also sealed: Turkey 2018 and Dotcom under the same physics. Instrument behavior on blind reconstructions — not a promise every future break prints the same lead time. Start at the 2008 case.
